Summer has finally arrived, with the promise of long lazy days by the pool, visits to the waterpark, or trips to the beach. You may have purchased a new bathing suit and booked a session at your local tanning salon, only to face disappointment after a glance in the mirror.
Cellulite on thighs, legs, or stomach can make even the hottest swimsuit look like a department store
marked-down. Fortunately, this problem has a solution, and with discipline and patience, and perhaps a few helpful products, you can once again look your best.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is a condition where the underlying fat deposits cause the skin to have a dimpled, lumpy appearance. It is most obvious on thighs and buttocks, and stomach. While cellulite can affect both sexes, it is most common in women because of their distribution of body fat.
While cellulite can be a result of hormones or genetic factors, it can also result from improper diet, excessive weight gain, and lack of exercise. If you have a tendency towards cellulite, eating too much fat or carbs, too much salt, and too little fiber can your cellulite problem much worse.
How Do I Get Rid of It?
Since cellulite is the result of fat deposits in skin cells, reducing the amount of fat in these cells can reduce the appearance of cellulite and make the skin appear more smooth and supple.
If you suffer from cellulite, there are several strategies that can help remove cellulite.
Massages and other spa treatments can have a temporary effect on the skin dimpling caused by cellulite. These treatments do not actually remove cellulite, but they can remove excess fluid that causes the skin to pucker. Some people even resort to laser treatment to remove cellulite. The FDA has authorized a device that uses laser energy to melt fat under the skin, breaking up the fibrous bands that cause thelumpy appearance ofcellulite.
For most people, however, the solution is both simpler and cheaper. Studies have shown that a healthy diet and regular exercise can go a long way in the removal of unattractive cellulite deposits. A diet that is high in
fiber, fruits and vegetables, and low in fats and carbs can result in weight loss, diminishing cellulite fat deposits. Exercise can improve muscle tone as well as ensure weight loss. Experts agree that the most effective routine would include aerobic conditioning and strength training. An added bonus is that you will feel better, look healthier, and have more energy.
Another option for cellulose treatment is the use of skin creams and ointments. These products claim to dissolve fat and give the skin a smooth, supple appearance. Some of these creams feature a surprising ingredient: coffee. The caffeine in coffee is said to draw water out of fat cells, shrinking them and making the fat less noticeable. One thing that can be said about this treatment is that it is inexpensive and readily available: there are even instructions for making a paste out of used coffee grounds that can be rubbed on the skin.
